Eco-Friendly Cleaning: Floors

For a few months now I have been using a homemade cleaner in an old multi-purpose spray bottle to spray cleaning solution onto the floors when I mop up. After my husband, Will, got me some marvelous new glass spray bottles for Valentine’s Day I was eager to change more aspects of my floor cleaning routine.

I had been feeling guilty for quite some time about how wasteful my Wet Jet mop was, with its plastic one-time-use pads. I made the decision to switch to something new and I was almost to the bottom of my box of Swiffer pads when our good friend Kayla sent me a Pinterest pattern for a washable cover that I could make myself. So I finished up my box of pads as I crocheted myself a few reusable ones.

I have since used the crochet pads a few times and they work just as well without all the plastic! I used a durable, absorbent, cotton yarn that shrunk just a little in the first wash. Now it fits more snuggly than the loose fitting original. Since then I have been setting it in the sun to dry & there has been no further shrinkage. If you are crafty and want to whip one up for yourself I used this pattern from the Just Be Crafty blog. If you are ready to make the switch and want to buy one that is already made; I have a few up on the Hometree Homemade shop. I will be posting more as they are made so keep an eye out!

I have really enjoyed sharing these sustainable changes with you this month. Thank you for taking this journey with me. Here’s to many months to come.

Sending all my love,

K.Ezzell
